The city of Kyoto, formerly the imperial capital of Japan, is also known as the City of Ten Thousand Shrines.

Among the most noteworthy shrines is the To-Ji temple, which features a pagoda reaching 55 meters in height–the tallest wooden tower in Japan. This pagoda continues to symbolize the city of Kyoto.
